As people living in a fast-paced world with fast food restaurants readily available on every corner, it can often be hard to manage one’s personal wellness. We think we need to diet, we need to walk a mile every day after work, and we aren’t allowed to have sweet things or carbs. If we’re realistic, general health needs a broader wellness approach, one that takes into consideration mental health and feeling good, not just losing weight.
Maintaining a general wellness means getting good rest and making sure you’re getting your energy from good sources. Make sure you are going to sleep and waking up at consistent times so that your body can establish a routine. Wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends, and make sure you eat a good breakfast so that your body has the energy it needs at the start of every day.
Staying active is an important part of maintaining your wellness. While you don’t need to go to the gym and pump iron for three hours every day, taking brisk walks and getting up from your desk every once in a while when you’re at work keeps you awake and energized.
Physical activity can also be a great relaxation method, but if you need to find another way to unwind, that’s fine too. Making time for yourself and allowing yourself to relax is vital to your wellbeing. Stress is detrimental to both our mental and physical health. If you need a day off once in a while, don’t be afraid to take it. Meditate and reflect on what makes you happy. Are you living your best life? Are you striving to be a good person who is happy with him or herself? Mental wellness and happiness is essential to maintaining physical wellness. They go hand in hand. General wellness involves all aspects of the mind and body. Nurture your happiness as well as your health.
